AFTERCARE

Congrats on your new tattoo! Treat it right over the next couple of weeks and it’ll love you back. The aftercare below is simple but important, so give it a read and you’re all set.

________________

Leave the second skin dressing on for 48 hours. The dressing is waterproof and, as long as you don’t scrub it, it should stay on fine. The tattoo may weep plasma with some excess ink — this is completely normal.

When it comes to removing the second skin, take it off in the shower. Gently stretch it downwards from the bottom, using water to help. Remove it slowly and carefully — don’t rip it off.

Once removed, give the tattoo a good clean using a gentle, non-perfumed soap (e.g. Simple soap). Use clean hands and remove all plasma from the tattoo. Then let it air dry. DO NOT dry it with a towel.

When clean and dry, apply a small amount of cocoa butter (I recommend Palmer’s Cocoa Butter, available at most chemists and supermarkets). Use just enough for it to melt into the skin. Apply 2–3 times a day for the next 10–14 days.

Your tattoo will generally take around two weeks to fully heal. However, some health conditions or medications can increase healing time.

________________

It is normal for your tattoo to weep a clear liquid for the first few days. It may also be swollen, sore, and warm. If any of these symptoms continue beyond a week, please get in touch.

After a few days to a week, your tattoo may peel or flake like a sunburn. DO NOT pick at it.

Your general well-being will affect how your tattoo heals, so make sure you eat well, drink plenty of water, and get enough sleep.

It’s important to follow this advice closely to ensure your tattoo heals safely and quickly. Once you leave the studio, caring for your tattoo is your own responsibility. By signing the consent form, you have agreed to follow these steps as closely as possible.

A tattoo is an open wound, so treat it as such. ALWAYS wash your hands thoroughly before and after touching, washing, or applying aftercare to your tattoo.
